DID YOU KNOW:
...That an all-electric vehicle pricing war has broken out between Ford with its all new and just introduced Mustang Mach-E and Tesla with their Model Y? Tesla has been largely unchallenged in the luxury pure electric class, but the introduction of the Mach-E has already proven to be a game changer weeks before Ford dealers started to receive Mach-E inventory. Tesla lowered the base price of its Model Y to to better compete with the Mach-E. Both vehicles are priced in the lower $40 thousands and both have “long range” options that bring them into the mid-$40’s. The dollar war is likely to get even more competitive with the introduction of at least six or seven new all-electric vehicles this year. By 2022, there promises to be a least 15 new all electrics in the market.

Well, everyday we read about yet another company preparing to introduce a Flying Car. It’s enough to make you think there’ll soon be showrooms full of Flying Car models and neighborhood streets used for landing. Some manufacturers are even promising battery-powered versions; guess they’ve yet to learn that weight and balance are critical components of anything that flies. Presuming they solve the battery weight and airframe location challenge, let us not forget that the FAA has no intention of letting these vehicles pull out of a residential garage and allow you to use the street for a takeoff or as a landing strip. Not to mention the requirement that those planing to fly one must have a pilot’s license. Flying cars will not meet the “Sport Pilot” weight, size and speed requirements for a non-pilot airframe. In short, you’ll need an airport to fly it from and a legal pilot’s license to do so.
Oh, and did we fail to mention that it will have to meet the FAA’s required “annual inspection?” That requires taking the vehicle completely apart every year by a certified FAA mechanic for inspection of condition and safety updates. If the word “inexpensive” just popped into your head, you do not know flight annual inspections. Anyhow, if you were waiting with bated breath to buy a flying car, cool your jets (pun intended); it ain’t going to happen. We’re not saying the richer folks won’t have one, but you won’t see it landing at garage near you.
