I know, a lot of people don’t believe that, but it’s likely a fact. A number of things have changed and quickly. First, the government is going to continue to press the matter from both ends, starting with the manufacturers and then on the consumers (read: taxpayer). The good news is the market is about to be to full of selection in this class of vehicle and they’re no longer just for the high-end luxury buyer. Real cars, with real range and realistic prices.
Most folks know that Toyota was the first to really blaze the trail for production of electric-powered vehicles. However, though slow to fully commit, the American manufacturers have stepped up their game and both GM and Ford are introducing new models at a rapid rate. The best news is the vehicles have profited from a lot of engineering development that in turn makes them more like regular vehicles; No longer a novelty driven by nerds but real cars and trucks that real drivers can enjoy.
Now past what made them odd is the fact that battery breakthroughs have given the vehicles a far better range and the rapid growth of both at-home chargers and public units, mixed with range that far exceeds the day-to-day or even weekend driving distances most consumers drive. Expect to see the 300 to 500 mile range and growing. Today’s market already made upon cars, vans, SUVs and pick trucks will join the group in the next few months. Ask anybody who currently drives one and you’ll always the same response; ”I love it”.
It too may be a while, but electric vehicles are here to stay and most us will driving one very soon...
