DID YOU KNOW:
...That “Super Cars” are fast becoming like popcorn? You see them everywhere. Overdone, overstated and usually driven by gold chain wearing fools who can’t wait to prove they have no driving talent...the only time they get any notice. The whole point of owning one is when towing companies are pulling them off the guardrail or trees that they crashed them into. The Monterey Car Week just wrapped up and there were “Super Cars” everywhere. A plain Porsche 911, a wonderful car to drive, would only get noticed if it caught fire. The true show stealers were the new line up of Bentleys: Stunning beyond belief and if you happen to have a spare $250,000 (base price), we highly recommend you consider one.
...That this year's Monterey Car Week was greeted with perfect weather, some of the weirdest clothing, and some of the most rip-off prices we’ve seen in a long time? Monterey is a wonderful setting for the week long automotive festivities including car shows, rallies, vintage racing and high-end auto auctions. Lots of vehicles were selling for over 1 million dollars and a large number for a great deal more than that. The week was filled with great restaurants, lovely views and money flowing the pockets of those able to spare it. What was sad to me is the fact that every hotel within 30 miles of the place tripled their rates and the little knickknack stores raised their prices by five times...total ripoff. Even the formerly free downtown car show not cost money to attend. The greed was so gross as to make one sick...shame on them. A truly special event is rapidly being spoiled by those who have no morals.
...That the races going on at Laguna Seca Raceway during this same week was the site of so many amazing and wonderful cars, from pre-war to Formula One machines and everything in between? The base of the activities was Ford Motor Company’s celebrating 55 years of TransAm racing. Several former Championship drivers from the series as well as a great number of former period-correct race cars raced and showed all week. Great stuff and a wonderful way to celebrate Ford’s many Mustang Championships.
