DID YOU KNOW:
...That after three decades of manufacturers running body-platform cycles for up to ten years (but never shorter than five), this trend is nearly over? Car and truck companies are bringing new trends in design that appeal to consumers and will force them to cycle through product appearances much sooner. Though the base platform or even the powertrain might not cycle, the outward appearance will. Consumers want to see the “latest thing” and ten year old body shapes with just token updates will soon no longer cut it.
...That vehicle fatalities are up...way up? Vehicle crash deaths had dropped to around 30,000 in the U.S. annually. Since the lockdown, even with far less traffic, the numbers are 50,000. That’s a massive rise and speed is largely to blame. Clearer roads and highways have Americans driving much faster and though safety gains and crash worthiness have come so far, they can’t seem to keep up with the higher speeds. Not to mention, the drivers haven’t increased their driving skills, just the weight of their "throttle foot."
...That gasoline is fast approaching $5 per gallon and the interest in fuel economy has returned to front and center? The new normal has also been a boost to the electric vehicle market. Frankly it’s a confusing time for consumers; who could blame them? By all appearances, the government is determined to eliminate vehicles powered by internal combustion engines and be fully switched to pure electric. The newest report on the state of the environment will likely push this thinking even harder. Most automotive manufacturers had committed to producing strictly EV’s by 2035, but we strongly suspect that date is about to move even closer...a lot closer.
