The SEMA Show, 2021

DID YOU KNOW:

...that the World’s Largest Automotive Industry show is conducted right here in Las Vegas? It’s known as the SEMA Show which stands for Specialty Equipment Markers Association. It started in Dodger Stadium back in 1970 and is now the third largest convention in Las Vegas, taking place at the beginning of every November. It draws huge crowds of everybody from custom car and truck builders, tire and wheel companies, auto manufactures, to accessories and buyers.

This year’s convention was definitely down in attendance for the simple reason of COVID-19, but the turnout was still very impressive. Following the announcement that SEMA had named the Ford Mustang “Car of The Year,” the Ford F-150 “Truck of The Year,” and Ford’s new Bronco "SUV of The Year," it wasn’t unreasonable to see so many customized versions on the Convention Center Floor in all four buildings. The new Full-Size Bronco as well as the Bronco Sport were in at least 100 booths in some form or another.

Equally interesting was the number of customized Electric Vehicles, which the industry clearly sees as the new wave of personal transportation. Everything from exotics to budget bouncers were there in some form of customized vehicle. Drift cars and lifted trucks had their fair share of displays on hand too. In fact, only road racing vehicles seem to be in reduced numbers this year.

Masks were required and was pretty strictly enforced. There was a lot of hugs and handshakes so people were acting like real people, but hand sanitizer was still in heavy use. It was a great show this year, packed with important industry information and an annual opportunity to catch up with important business contact and friends. The show is closed to the general public until Friday each year so if you love cars and cool and clever parts it’s the place to be.
