Puttin' on the BRAKES

DID YOU KNOW:

...That by 2025, all new pure electric vehicles will be sold with a federally required built-in “cut off” switch that can be operated remotely by the police? As a generally law abiding citizen, I wouldn’t (at first blush) find this to be an offensive idea. It would certainly cut down on police chases. However, after considering it for a bit, it occurs to me that there are number of downsides to this.

First (and scariest), there is the fact that this technology will end up in the hands of criminals almost overnight. Once that happens, all hell will break loose as kidnapping, carjacking, and robberies will skyrocket because the bad guys will instantly put the tool to use without any good intent.

If that isn’t bad enough, what happens if you’re behind a vehicle that gets remotely turned off? It will most certainly come to an abrupt halt, causing all kinds of crashes. Banks will likely soon use it for repossessing vehicles and the state will be quick to use to collect traffic fines. In short, it won’t just be used to end car chases.
