HEAVIER Vehicles and Busier HUDs

DID YOU KNOW:

...That despite using lighter materials, smaller diameter wiring, thinner yet more effective sound deadening, alloy hoods, doors, trucks and even engines cars continue to gain weight? A new 2021 car weighs as much as a 1954 vehicle. How? Why? Simple, we keep adding new safety features, crushable structures, air bags, dashboards with more information and entertainment than our home computers, emissions equipment and electric louvers behind the grilles and on and on...it all adds up. The good news is today’s vehicles are lightyears ahead of vehicles of just 10 years ago. Performance, handling, safety, emissions, miles per gallon and safety are far advanced and getting better every year. The automotive industry gets little, if any, credit for all that its accomplished, but truth told they deserve a hearty “WELL DONE!”

...That despite being used and loved in military aircraft, the “Heads Up” display has not been well received by consumers in their vehicles? Hard to understand why: it’s a great information source that is easy to refer to with little or no driver distraction. When asked, some drivers respond that they find it "distracting." Odd given that’s exactly what it was designed to avoid. It was designed to help pilots remained focused on targets and other fighter aircraft while still paying attention to flying their own aircraft. Works for them but still slow to be adopted by street drivers. Personally, this driver likes it.
