DID YOU KNOW:
...That right here in Las Vegas there is some great free entertainment if you’re a motorsports fan? SpeedVegas, the facility that rents out laps of exotic cars on their purpose-built road course, is now conducting races. ADYK Producer Jake Taylor and myself were just out there to watch the season final of the Legends Championship. Legends are 1/2 scale replicas of 1930s hot rods powered by 130 horsepower four-cylinder motorcycle engines and they fly. Cooler still, these little racers are considered the path to NASCAR since they were developed for that purpose in NASCAR country.
Kids as young as 13 were racing this past weekend and duking it out with older kids and young adults on the SpeedVegas road course. It had all the feel of a NASCAR race: rigs, motorhomes, fancy trailers and team cars all lined the pits and the drivers and crews were all surprisingly friendly. The viewing at SpeedVegas is great as we watched from the second-story balcony on the main office with a full view of the entire track. Great fun and should you get caught up in the moment, you can rent a few laps in one of the Super Cars while you’re there because they run the races on a 30 minute cycle so there’s an open track for the extra fast stuff.
Next week we have an interview on Automotive Did You Know with a young local driver we met at the event as he works way up through the ranks of racing to hopefully someday being involved with NASCAR. This is part of our series on “How Do I Get Started in Motor Racing?” From go-karts to Professional factory racing, we hope to guild just a few who are looking for a “way in” to the motor racing industry.
