WINTER...and How it Affects Your Ride

DID YOU KNOW:

...That with the onset of winter, many cars will indicate “low tire pressure” on their tire pressure monitoring systems? This is more commonly caused by the cooler outside temps reducing the size of the tire's air molecules, hence reducing the internal air pressure. From a functioning standpoint, this will cause damage to the tire if its pressure isn’t increased enough to bring the tire back factory specs.

...That not one antifreeze type will work in all diesel engines? Surprisingly enough, nearly all diesel engines require a specific antifreeze brand designed to work with the manufacturer’s specs for that engine. Conventional gas-powered engines aren't nearly as demanding, but diesels are very sensitive to having the correct brand and type used in them. Be sure to read the engine manufacturer’s requirements for diesel antifreeze.

...That it's likely your gas mileage will go down a little in colder temps? This is the result of denser air outside that will, amazingly, require working just a bit harder to slip through it. The larger the vehicle in front profile, the greater the effect will be. No need to panic, your better mileage will return come cooler weather.

...That your car’s battery lives a hard life in here southern Nevada? Super high under-hood temps in the summer rob years of life from you battery and winter here can be just cool enough to make you battery’s cranking amps suffer as well. As a human being, southern Nevada is a great place to live. As a battery, not so much.
