I saw a comment the other day from a retired auto manufacturer engineer, and for me it „„ up the lack of understanding that manufacturer’s (and in a lot of cases the general public) have for the real world of being a new car dealer. It made remarks to the limited selection and the “market value” mark-up on the vehicles on the lot. These comments on their own appear to be reasonable and fair. However, what the manufacturers fail to understand is the challenges that dealers have faced over the last three years.
Despite the huge lack of supply from the manufacturers, these dealers stayed opened, kept their employees, serviced their customers and their communities, and paid their taxes...losing millions of dollars in the process. Now, they are being judged for attempting to recover by adding “market value” mark-ups until the manufacturers can get their act together and supply (as they contractually agreed to) inventories. Communities need these dealers; Manufacturers REALLY NEED these dealers.
