At least once a day, while either to work or home, I see a car with at least one or two of its tires bouncing along like they’re trying out for the NBA. Honestly, that’s not good. Though usually completely misunderstood and all but never checked on, tires and shocks are so important to your vehicle’s handling and safety. Both tires and shocks have very important and difficult jobs. The shock absorbers' job is to control the spring; sounds good I know, but if you let a spring go uncontrolled, it will stay in frequency for just about forever. This means it will continue to coil and recoil continuously at the same rate that the last bump put it in. That constant movement means the suspension and tire are following it: NOT GOOD. Generally speaking on average, a new vehicle’s shocks are good for around 55,000 miles. Though, like tires, which are dependent on the wear rating and how you drive, can last anywhere from 25,000 to 60,000 miles, depending on the tire and the conditions they’re driven in.

The bottom line is this: New tires and shocks (and you never buy new tires without getting your vehicle’s frontend realigned) will make any vehicle feel like new again. These are high wear components that are subject to huge amounts of abuse. Taking care of them will help your vehicle take better care of you.
