HOW NASCAR RUINS RACING

NASCAR has done some pretty smart and clever things the last 18 months, chief among them showing the world how to conduct outdoor sports since COVID-19 locked everybody indoors. However, great as that’s been, they continue to ruin the finish of major races...in fact, ALL of their races.

NASCAR expects their fans and race watchers to invest the most important hours of any given weekend to witness a 500 mile race, which, on average takes between three and four hours of racing to accomplish. Then with just a few miles or laps from the end, the near certain yellow flag (the result of late race efforts to win) will cause a crash. Without fail, NASCAR will burn down all but two of three laps to end the race, usually destroying the battle that was going on to the total frustration of the fans. No race management group in the world spends as many laps under yellow and then continues to apply them to the race total. It’s as if NASCAR couldn’t give a flip at the time fans spend looking for a good race only to destroy it by a “Green, White, Checker.” It is totally ripoff to the fans.

It’s our view that NASCAR should back up to the lap of the crash and start the racing from there, no matter how many laps they require the drivers to follow a pace car. Let them race as if the yellow hadn’t happened; don’t destroy the race we all put so much time in.
