NEARLY TWISTED HIS LIFE AWAY: In February of 1992, a worker from Beijing was hospitalized with “twisted intestine” after playing for hours with a hula hoop. His was the third such case in just a few weeks during the height of the hula hoop craze in China.

ONE HECK OF A GUY: While living with actress Laura Dern (who had left home to go make a movie) her boyfriend, Billy Bob Thornton, met and married Angelina Jolie. Ms. Dern returned home from filming only to learn of the recent events. Likely caused a change in her dinner plans for that evening.
HIGH SPEED LAWN MOWING: The very first National Lawn Mower race was held on Labor Day in 1992. The Great Race took place in Grayslake, Illinois and had over 3,000 spectators. The outdoor Power Equipment Institute was against the event because they didn’t feel it promoted power equipment safety. What it did do is ride money towards the fight of Lou Gehrig’s disease and became a popular sport all across the United States.
HE COULD RUN BUT HE COULDN’T DRIVE: He won gold at the 1976 Olympics and not only won the hearts of millions of Americans but the door was opened for Bruce Jenner to try his hand at other things, like motor racing. Ford Motor Company, swept up in Jenner's Olympic glow, gave Bruce a shot at being a professional race car driver. A few crashed cars and no victories later, it was decided he should try other professions.
